The Bradfordville Blues Club

By: Gary Anton

It’s time, folks. After 21 fantastic years of running the most magical club on the planet, it’s time to fully retire, visit family and friends, take in romantic sunsets and explore parts unknown. Sadly, we announce the closing of the Bradfordville Blues Club as of April 1, 2023 (no, not an April Fool’s joke). Kim and I have had the privilege of Keeping the Blues Alive at this historic and truly unique juke joint. We have been rewarded with friendships and love from the folks we’ve met from customers, our “irregulars”, musicians, bands and the community at large. Its taken a villiage to keep the club open. The Tallahassee and music communities responded with support, loyalty and financial aid when needed. We coud not have done it without you!

There are too many people to thank but there are two people, Walter Potter and Ree Case, without whom the club woud not have survived. They have been behind us since day one and to whom we are forever grateful!
We don’t know yet what the future holds for the club. It’s in the hands of members of the the Henry Family who purchased the property in the 1880’s. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Henry Family who supported us and kept the blues alive!
We are talking with folks who have expressed an interest in preserving the club. We truly hope that the right people come along who will have the same passion for the club, the music and the rich heritage of the Henry grounds. We’ll keep you posted.
To all of our supporters: We love you and thank you for allowing Kim and me to have the time of our lives. We hope to see you in February and March as we bring in some of the bands that have meant so much to us over the last two decades.
The Nick Schnebelen Band, Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 pm
The Nick Schnebelen Band re-takes the corner stage for a special Wednesday night show.  Nick has played the club with his own band and as a member of two time Blues Music Award winner Trampled Under Foot. Nick’s three piece from Kansas City mixes its rockin’ blues, funk and Americana with the Mid-West roots behind Nick’s powerful vocals, fiery fretwork and wailing guitar Leslie. Nick’s play earned him the Albert King Best Guitarist Award at the 2009 International Blues Challenge. He is joined by a tight rhythm section of drums and bass to round out the power trio.
Versatile and dynamic musicians that’ll keep your feets a movin’! Jus’ right for gg ready for your weekend.

Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors, Friday, March 24 at 7:30 pm
Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors blow in from the West Coast with some mighty hot swingin’ blues. The consensus among blues writers is that Mark is one of the top blues harmonica players in the country. This California native’s style includes a heavy dose of west coast jump ‘n jive blues, and traditional Chicago blues with swing and R&B thrown in for some mighty fine booty shakin’ music.
Joining Mark is Grammy Winner Billy Flynn on guitar along with the amazing rhythm section of Wes Starr on drums and Jon Ross on bass. Top it off with Grammy Nominee and two time Blues Award winner Mark Hummel on harp & vocals and you have one heavy night of non-stop, unforgettable blues and swing at its very best!

Harper & Midwest Kind, Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 pm.
It’s Didgeriblues when Australian blues, soul and world music master, Harper & Midwest Kind return to Tallahassee’s outback. These folks have become fan favorites over the last decade or so of playing the club. Harper is an award winning singer and songwriter, who plays a mean blues harp and incorporates the Aboriginal Didgeridoo into his shows. His stage setting– colorful sights and aromatic fragrances–creates the aura for an entertaining show. Harper’s music reflects the earthy, worldly influences from Down Under. It’s an eclectic mix of world roots vibes, soul, rock, blues and funk.  World music, social commentary with a solid groove, hot harp and an entertaining stage show. Really good stuff.

Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin  with The David Julia Band – Sunday, March 26 at 5 pm
The legendary Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin with The David Julia Band roll back into the club on Sunday afternoon  This is the real deal–one of if not the best old school, barn burnin’, high energy blues shows on the circuit. Unquestionably, Bob is one the finest blues players to pick up a guitar. He is a tireless promoter of the blues as a musician, producer, writer, columnist, preservationist, mentor to the next blues generation and supporter of the older blues players. Indeed, young David Julia and his band will be joining Bob on the corner stage.
Bob’s career spans more than 50 years of performing, with multiple Bluse Music Awards among too many other nominations and other awards to list.  He’s played, toured and recorded with a lifetime of blues legends, and thousands of appearances at festivals, clubs and cruises all over the world. Early in his career, he played with the legendary Muddy Waters for 8 years appearing in The Last Waltz and sharing the stage and studio with just about every blues icon over the last 50 years.
David Julia is a guitar prodigy who calls Central Florida home. His vocals, play and songwriting belie this young man’s years. He’s already made his name in Florida and in the US under the tutelage of Bob, among others. Although he can shred the frets, David plays the blues from his soul and sings from his heart in a more contemporary and traditional electric blues style. This young man is a rising star who we will be hearing a lot about in the coming years.

Kat Riggins & Her Blues Revival–  Thursday, March 30th at 7:30 pm

2023 Blues Music Award nominee for Soul Blues Female and Soul Blues Album, Kat Riggins & Her Blues Revival, ignites the BBC on Thursday, March 30th. Kat’s soulful, full throated blues highlighted by her vibrant, non-stop high energy stage presence is a captivating crowd pleaser.  She can rattle the rafters with her powerful delivery and back it down with soulful, moving blues. The critics proclaim:
“There are two types of music listeners in the world: Those who are fans of Kat Riggins and those who’ve never heard of her. And for those who haven’t heard of her, check her out. One of the best undiscovered soul singers out on the market. Kat Riggins is a must see performer.”  – Greater Boston Music Review
“What’s the best way to start a good, ol’ fashioned blues revival? Well, for starters, your singer has to have a big, bold voice that grabs you at note one. Then, you need a killer backing band that knows blues, funk, R & B, and gospel from the inside out, and can make everything contemporary-sounding for today’s audiences. That brings us to Kat Riggins, possessor of such a power-house voice.” Sheryl and Don Crow, Blue Blog Review.
“A petite vocalist with a potent delivery and electrifying voice, Kat Riggins holds nothing back as she delivers this collection of eight self-penned originals and two carefully chosen covers.” Blues Blast Magazine
Kat’s backed by an array of  journeymen blues players molded into a tight unit.

An exciting show for the cozy confines of the juke joint under the stars.

Check out Kat’s music and video at https://katriggins.com/ and then experience the Baby Doll of the Blues at the BBC.
